Cynikal, rising British Asian rapper releases ‘Won’t Let You Down’

Cynikal, one of the fastest rising rappers on the British urban scene has released a new single titled ‘Won’t Let You Down’.

The heartfelt song, which was also produced by Cynikal, features vocals from fellow rising star and lead actress in the Sister Act Musical, Cynthia Erivo.

Directed by Chas Appeti and Simon Dewey, the well-crafted music video for ‘Won’t Let You Down’ sees Cynikal pay homage to “my family, my friends, my fans and anyone who has ever given me an opportunity to succeed in life – it’s because of all those people I am where I stand”.

Cynikal’s song is closely drawn to his own personal experience: “The song highlights my determination to succeed, and my will to achieve what I set out to when this all began many years ago. I wanted to write a song which was honest and true to my character – something which not only gave an insight into where I was at in my career, but also the journey I'd undertaken”.

On collaborating with the singer Cynthia, Cynikal reflects: “Working with Cynthia was a great experience. I'd known her for a few years prior, as we'd often be booked for the same gigs, so our chemistry in the studio was natural. She's a true professional, one of those singers that don’t need much direction”.

Born in London, raised in Essex and a graduate of the prestigious Leeds College of Music Academy, Cynikal, also known as Tavinder Sanghera, is one of the very few urban artists with a British Asian identity. The experiences growing up in an Asian household twinned with experiences living in 21st century Britain lie at the heart of his rhythm and lyrics.

For 2013, Cynikal is clear on what he wants to achieve: “To solidify my reputation within urban listenership, to cross over to commercial listenership, and finally, to bring those two worlds together”.

BBC Introducing/BBC Asian Network presenter Yasser Ranjha is backing Cynikal 100%: “Cynikal’s music will always be on my ipod, his unique style, talent and hard work is fully embraced in his work and he is definitely one to keep an eye on”.
