Kenya’s Afro-fusion star Makadem makes first UK appearance

Saturday May 19, @ Cultural Collage World Music Festival in Manchester.

 

 

The first UK appearance of dreadlocked ethnic fusion star Ohanglaman Makadem will take place this Saturday at the Cultural Collage World Music Festival in Manchester.

"Kenyan superstar Makadem mixes hiphop with the sounds of Afro fusion laced with Luo traditional Ohangla drums, Nyatiti beats intertwined with Western rhythms.

"The music popularly referred to as Anglo-Ohangla is a fusion of Ohangla, Nyatiti, and Dodo -traditional Luo (western Kenya, Lake Victoria region tribe) styles of Music. A joyful marriage of African beats and heavily accented Luo-English vocals.

"His music is humorous and witty, yet culturally oriented and powerfully tackles social and economic issues that affect people of all walks of life and that is the reason why all age groups always find something to relate to and identify with his songs." (www.womex.com)

Also appearing are Gabbidon (led by ex Steel Pulse founder, Basil Gabbidon), Golty Farabeau from the Seychelles plus Freedom Masses Soundsystem operators!

Each act will play their own set and then during the final hour all will be on stage together for a tribute to Reggae legend, Bob Marley.
