07 February 2011: Egyptians or other nationalities with expired visas, unable to leave the UK due to the situation in Egypt, have nothing to worry. The UK Border Agency “appreciates” this was due to “exceptional circumstances”.

The UKBA has asked such nationals should keep proof of original travel plans and make arrangements to leave the country as soon as possible.

The UKBA has added they `would like to reassure any Egyptians or other nationalities with expired visas, who have been unable to leave the UK due to the situation in Egypt. The agency appreciates that this was due to exceptional circumstances.

`Due to the current security situation in Egypt and to ensure the safety of our customers and staff, the UK visa application centres in Cairo and Alexandria have been temporarily closed.

`Some visa applications submitted in Sudan and Yemen are processed in Cairo. The situation has also affected the visa services in these countries….

`We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
