Fill forms with caution, lest they be rejected

Get visa applications filled with care, says Home Office to students and sponsors In a reminder to the sponsors, the home office of the UK border agency has clarified incorrect application will not be considered; and has suggested its website can be consulted before going ahead.

It has asserted a significant number of visa letters containing errors have been received, since tier 4 of the points-based system for overseas students was implemented on March 31.

“It is important to make sure visa letters issued to prospective students are completed correctly before they are submitted as part of a tier 4 application,” the agency says. “If the visa letter is completed incorrectly, the application will be refused”.

The agency adds it wants to encourage high-quality applications that are completed correctly and contain all the evidence required.

“If you want to know what the visa letter must contain, you can find a checklist by visiting the relevant section of the website,” says the agency.

Elaborating, it says the visa letter from an approved education provider must be original; on their letter-headed paper; signed and dated by an authorised official. The signature can be original or electronic.

In case of child students, the approved education provider must issue a visa letter for you to be able to apply as a student. The visa letter is confirmation of your unconditional offer of a place on a course of study. You must have a visa letter when you apply, or your application will be refused.

Later on in 2009, approved education providers will start using new IT system to start issuing confirmation of acceptance for studies, which is an electronic number, to allow you to apply for a student visa.

The agency has issued a similar reminder to foreign nationals applying to study in the United Kingdom under tier 4 of the points-based system.

“If you are applying under tier 4, please make sure the visa letter issued to you by your approved education provider contains all of the required information as described in the tier 4 guidance.“If you submit an application with a visa letter that does not contain all the required information, your application will be refused,” the agency has warned.

“It is your responsibility to make sure the information you submit with your application is correct and complete. If your visa letter does not contain the required information, please contact your approved education provider,” it has concluded.
