Migrant workers under Tiers 2, 5 can now apply, pay fees online

Migrant workers under Tiers 2 and 5 of the points-based system can now apply and pay their application fees online if they are already in the UK.

The new online application system is also available to these workers’ dependants who are in the UK and seeking permission to extend their stay, known as ‘further leave to remain’.

Applicants can use the online system to complete and submit their application, pay their application fee and if they want to use our ‘premium service’ book an appointment at a public enquiry office.

It is not compulsory to make your application online. You can still download and complete a paper application form.

The UK Border Agency said: `Your application date will be the date when you submit your online application and pay your application fee online.

`You will not need to pay a different fee if the application fee changes before you submit your supporting documents or enroll your biometric information — fingerprints and facial photograph.

`Your application will not become valid until you have supplied your supporting documents and enrolled your biometric information.

`When we have decided your application, we will send you a letter telling you our decision,’ the Border Force added .

When you have answered all the questions in the application, you will be asked whether you want to use our ‘standard’ or ‘premium’ service.

If you choose the standard service, you should send your supporting documents to the UKBA by post within eight days of your application date. `When we have received these documents, we will send you a letter inviting you to enroll your biometric information…. You must do this by the date stated on the letter.

`If you choose the premium service, you can book your appointment at a public enquiry office as part of your online application. The appointment must take place within 45 working days of your application date. When you attend your appointment, you will enroll your biometric information and submit your supporting documents.

`When you have supplied your supporting documents and enrolled your biometric information, your application will become valid.

`If your dependants are applying at the same time as you are, they do not need to create a separate customer account or submit a separate application. You will be asked in your online application whether you are including any dependants in your application – if you are, you will be asked questions within your own application for each dependant.

If your dependants are making an application after you, they must open their own customer account and select a Tier 2 or Tier 5 application, depending on your immigration category. When they are asked ‘What are you applying for?’ as part of their application, they should select ‘Points Based System Dependant’.

If you experience technical problems while completing or submitting an online application, you can contact our Apply online e-Support team.

Do not use this email address to request immigration advice, book an appointment or ask for information about the progress of your application. For immigration enquiries, contact our immigration enquiry bureau.

During your online application, you will be asked to state your previous address in the UK. If you have only lived at one UK address in the last five years, you should restate your current UK address and the period that you have lived there.
