New database to help UK Border Agency fight illegal immigration

A new database has been launched to help the UK Border Agency monitor immigration and track down illegal migrants in the UK.

According to Damian Green, Immigration Minister, the new system will free up border staff and allow them to focus on enforcement procedures.

Revealing that around a third of people overstay in the UK after their visas expire, Mr. Green said the new database will help border staff to address the problem and reduce the number of illegal immigrants.

“If we can send these people letters warning of the consequences of illegally overstaying then I'm sure we can reduce the total number deciding to remain,” Mr. Green said.

The Information Daily reported that the database will track information from passenger records inside and outside of Britain and Europe, storing the information for future cases.
