Overseas government employee can switch into Tier 5

17th November 2009: The Home Office has updated Tier 1 and Tier 2 lists. This follows successful assessment of Edexcel’s application to be included on the lists of approved English language Tests.

With this, you can familiarise yourselves with the updated information, which shows details of the English language tests that meet the English language requirements under the points-based system.
Also, if you have the leave to enter or remain as overseas government employee, you can also switch into the Tier 5.

Available information suggests the Border and Immigration Minister, Phil Woolas, has “agreed to allow those with leave to enter or remain as overseas government employees to switch into the Tier 5 (temporary worker) – international agreements sub-category of the points-based system.

The Minister has also agreed to allow officials of the Taipei Representative Office, who currently hold work permits to similarly switch into this category. These changes will be reflected in the Immigration Rules in due course.
