UK visa service in Uruguay closed down

The British Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay has closed down the visa section.

From 16th April 2012, it is no longer possible for UK visa applicants to enrol their biometrics at the British Embassy in Montevideo.

Visa applicants in Uruguay may make an appointment to enrol their biometrics at the visa section at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Their applications will then be processed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

From 16th April 2012, the British Embassy in Montevideo will also no longer process visa applications for Commonwealth Countries and Overseas Territories.

The UK Border Agency said that the changes will not affect their customer service standards.

The UK Border Agency’s standards say that they will process: 90% of non-settlement applications within three weeks; 98% within six weeks and 100% within 12 weeks of the application date. They are also supposed to process 95% of settlement applications within 12 weeks and 100% within 24 weeks of the application date.
