Use new form when applying for naturalisation as British citizen

To apply use application form AN
22nd November 2010: The UK Border Agency has published a new version of Form AN, used to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen.
Also, following a review, the UK Border Agency has split the existing naturalisation guidance into two documents: Guide AN – this simply explains how to complete the form; and Booklet AN – this gives more detail about the requirements for naturalisation and the way that the Secretary of State exercises his discretion.

You should now use the new versions of the form and guidance documents dated ‘September 2010’ when applying for naturalisation under section 6 of the British Nationality Act 1981.

To apply for naturalisation, you should use application form AN. Before you apply, you should ensure that you have read the section on eligibility.

You must be aged 18 or over to apply for naturalisation. If you are under 18, you should read the section on registering a child as a British citizen.

Before you make your application, you should read guidance documents, Booklet AN and Guide AN. These provide full details of the requirements that you must meet, and how to complete the application form.

You will need to confirm on the application form that you have read and understood both documents.
