Miss Uganda UK raises funds for charity

An opportunity to showcase and celebrate the beauty of Ugandan women

miss_uganda_ukfundraising1.jpg23rd March 2009: Miss Uganda UK 2009 grand finale will take place on 13th June 2009 at Troxy in London. This is an innovative way to put Uganda on the map for international trade and tourism and to let the World learn about the country’s history, beauty, culture, traditions, tourism potential and all aspects of Ugandan lifestyle both here in the UK and across the globe.  The contestants are encouraged to promote all of these attributes that Uganda has to offer.

Miss Uganda UK also highlights the plight and raises funds for the underprivileged children of Northern Uganda. “Miss Uganda UK gives us all an opportunity to give back to our community and come to the aid of those less fortunate than us. Once the winner is crowned, with all the communities’ help, support and guidance and further training provided for by Miss Uganda UK, she will be able to use her title to influence change and raise funds for the children of Northern Uganda through our official charity – Latitude Care Network (LCN),” says Ms. Joyce Church, Miss Uganda UK Beauty Contest Director.

One of the aims of this event is to raise awareness of the invaluable contributions that LCN does and has undertaken in Northern Uganda over the past few years.

Miss Uganda UK 2009 contestants and team organised a fundraising charity walk on 28th February 2009. The event was a great success and attended by hundreds of people from all over London.

The aim was to raise awareness of the charity and funds for the good cause by undertaking a sponsored walk. All proceeds from the charity walk will go directly to LCN. Pledges are still being collected.

The Miss Uganda UK 2009 contestants certainly turned heads whilst undertaking the sponsored walk in the park. They dazzled the passers by with their beauty and presence and they were an absolute joy to watch. “This is one of the opportunities for the Miss Uganda UK 2009 to give back to the community and help raise awareness for the plight of the children of Northern Uganda and put them at the heart of what we do,” Ms. Church said.

The Miss Uganda UK 2009 titleholder and team will be hosting a “Charity Fundraising Dinner” for this cause in Kampala. It will include a star-studded fashion show headed by Miss Uganda UK official designer, Brenda Maraka. All proceeds will go to LCN to help towards the rehabilitation and resettlement programme in Northern Uganda regions.

The public will still have the opportunity to make contributions towards the contestants’ sponsored walk.
