Calls upon Indians to volunteer during the 2012 Games
12th September 2011: The Indian community in London has received a pat on its back by Mayor Boris Johnson.
He has also called upon the Indian communities to get involved in volunteering during the 2012 Games.
The Mayor has minced no words in appreciating the Indians in London by saying: The dynamism and contribution of the Indian community to London’s economic, social and cultural life and their commitment to this city never fails to impress me.
The words of appreciation came in Johnson’s Diwali greetings. He asserted: Diwali is a wonderful festival and offers an inspiration to all communities with its underlying themes of peace, renewal and co-operation…..
`It is with this in mind that I am calling on all Indian communities to get involved in volunteering during the 2012 Games as well as becoming mentors to work with young people, especially in uniformed groups such as the Scouts and Cadets. I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous Diwali.
The festival of lights, Diwali, is about a month away. The festival is being celebrated at Trafalgar Square, Sunday, 16th October, between 2pm till 7pm
