The leading ferry operator DFDS Seaways is opening a new Dover-Calais-Dover route. Eastern European passengers travelling across the English Channel will now have even more choice of travel options.
The new Dover-Calais-Dover ferry service will start operation on 17th February 2012. Initially passengers will travel on board a ferry called Norman Spirit. The initial timetable will include 10 crossings throughout the day. An additional ship and extra crossings will be introduced to the route in the nearest future.
"A new route from Dover to Calais is good news for passengers travelling to and from the UK. Additional ferry services will give travellers a greater choice of where and when to travel," says Peter Szewcow from DFDS Seaways.
"We already operate a Dover-Dunkirk route with sailings around the clock so Calais will be an additional option for our passengers travelling across the English Channel."
The introduction of the new Dover-Calais-Dover route will also allow more people to benefit from travelling to and from continental Europe by ferry. At the moment ferries are the most comfortable and the cheapest way to travel on this route. Unlike so called “budget airlines”, there are no baggage allowance restrictions on board DFDS Seaways ferries.
"More importantly, there are no hidden fees, which means that for example a party of four passengers (or even nine in the low season) travelling in one car can go to Calais for as little as 29 GBP.
On board they can then rest, have a meal, do some shopping, in other words: travel in comfort, which is very important, especially when travelling longer routes, e.g. from Great Britain to Romania", adds Szewcow.
Below is the interim DFDS Seaways sailing schedule, effective from 17 February until the second ship is ready for the route.
