students-university-class.pngThat’s right. British Universities Information Day for Poles in UK is being organised on 17th July at Thames Valley University, Ealing London.

APEC-UK is organising the event for Poles wanting to study either full or part-time at British universities both at post graduate and undergraduate levels. The information is relevant for people wanting to obtain professional qualifications, do Masters, PhD or postgraduate diplomas in professional vocation subjects like MBA, marketing, management accounting and management studies.

Elizabeth Walker, Chairman of the Association of Polish Entrepreneurs & Companies UK (APEC-UK) says: “We are also covering routes into teaching — a good career option for Poles with the rising number of Polish children in British schools”.

You can gain postgraduate scholarships, entrepreneurship (Jacek Ostrowski  MD Yellow Octopus Ltd – winner of Queens Award for Enterprise 2010 and Agnes Gabriel from the Polish Bakery Ltd are the key speakers for this) and even study for entrepreneurship degree at Buckingham where you get £5,000 seed funding to set up a business on the course.

“We have for the first time ever someone from the Russell Group as a speaker,” says Walker. “More importantly, we want to encourage those Poles who haven’t got any qualifications at university level to look at going and getting a degree or doing some foundation/professional courses”.

The event is free of charge and people can drop in throughout the day. There is an exhibition area and seminars will be running throughout. The event and the seminars start from 10.00 and finish at 17.00 hours.

The event will be a mix of some seminars about undergraduate and postgraduate courses, UCAS applications, scholarships, the importance of IELTS qualifications for entry and university presentations, as well as an exhibition area where people can talk to university representatives.  Some members of Polish Student Societies from various universities such as University of Cambridge Polish Society will be taking part as well.

Participating universities include University of Warwick, King’s College University of London, University of Southampton, University of Sheffield, University of Salford,  University of Lancaster, University of York, University of Leicester, Birkbeck College  University of London, University of Hull,  London Metropolitan University,  University of Buckingham, Thames Valley University, London School of Business & Finance, University College Suffolk, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and other exhibitors. All university exhibitors will bring university prospectuses with them.
Additionally, there will be speakers such as William Haydock from the Russell Group which represents the top 20 British universities in UK and he will be talking about the history and ethos of the Russell Group and why the 20 member universities are so highly ranked not only in the UK, but worldwide, Jacek Ostrowski, the MD of Yellow Octopus Ltd, who has just won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2010 and Agnieszka Gabriel, Director of the Polish Bakery Ltd (which is one of the UK’s most successful bakeries supplying ASDA and Waitrose) who will be talking about how studying for a Masters degree helped  them to develop and run their highly successful businesses.
