Statewatch to hold workshops as a part of its 20th anniversary conference
17th June 2011: Workshops on border controls, migration and asylum, criminalising communities, racism, Islamophobia and defending civil liberties is all set to be held next weekend.
Statewatch, European Monitoring and Documentation Centre on EU Justice, will be holding the workshops as a part of its 20th anniversary conference — ‘Statewatching Europe, Civil Liberties, the State and the European Union’
The conference is expected to bring together key analysts and campaigners across Europe to discuss emerging trends.
Speakers include, Gareth Peirce on ‘The war on terror’ and Statewatch founder Tony Bunyan will speak about the ‘The state of Europe’.
The workshops will be on: Border controls, migration and asylum; Mass surveillance and technologies of control; Criminalising communities and the policing of protest; Racism, Islamophobia and the far-right; and Defending civil liberties: strategies of resistance
The conference will be organised on Saturday 25 June 2011
