Documentary on Afghan women to be screened at Rose Theatre Kingston Café

To celebrate National Refugee Week 2013 Refugee Action Kingston and the British Afghan Women’s Society will host an exclusive film screening of ‘DAWN: Documenting Afghan Women’s Narratives’ at the Rose Theatre Kingston Café, on Monday 17th June 2013, from 4pm to 6pm.

This documentary presents the life stories of Afghan women living in the UK. Their stories were collected as part of the DAWN project, the first oral history project ever to record the unique experiences of Afghan women who have settled in the UK over the last 40 years.  The interviews explore the women's lives in Afghanistan, their experiences of migration and life here in the UK.

This project aims to combat the often negative stereotypes of Afghan women portrayed in the media.

The film was produced and directed by Anne O’Connell, a volunteer who will be at the event.

You are encouraged to attend the event and bring friends, family and anyone who might be interested.
