Fela! Premiers at the London’s National Theatre

It explores the extravagant and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti

fela-kuti-ap.jpg4th November 2010: The acclaimed Broadway sensation Fela! will premier at the London’s National Theatre on 6th November. Star of the New York production Sahr Ngaujah will portray Fela on the National’s Olivier Stage.

A provocative and wholly unique hybrid of dance, theatre and music, Fela! explores the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), Fela! reveals Kuti’s controversial life as an artist and political activist.

The show features many of Fela Kuti’s most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones’ visionary staging, Fela! – an original new creation.

The role of Fela will be played by Rolan Bell at the following performances:
