Ila Arun makes UK stage debut as Bilquis Bibi

Also to appear in West is West later this year

7th July 2010: Indian singer-cum-actress Ila Arun is all set to enthrall the audience in the UK. She is geared up to makes her UK stage debut as Bilquis Bibi and will be appearing in West is West later this year. It is BBC films forthcoming sequel to East is East.


The House of Bilquis Bibi, featuring Ila Arun and Indira Joshi of The Kumars at No. 42’s, is being staged at the Hampstead Theatre, London, on 22 July and is expected to run till 14 August before leaving on a UK tour. It marks the `Tamasha Theatre Company’s 21 years in theatre.

Presented by Tamasha and Harrogate Theatre, the House of Bilquis Bibi by Sudha Bhuchar is adapted from Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba.

The locale is Pakistan’s fertile Punjab region; and the story is about a domineering mother and her obsession with upholding the family’s status, which eventually affects the fate of her five unmarried daughters.

Ila Arun hits British screen during 2010 in West is West. An acclaimed singer and actor, Ila starred in Bollywood blockbuster Jodhaa Akbar and TV show Fame Gurukul, and has released hit songs including Ringa Ringa which featured in Slumdog Millionaire and the famous, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, from Khalnayak, which won Filmfare Best Playback Singer , (shared with Alka Yagnik).
