3rd December 2010: Interested in meeting and interviewing international specialists on migration? Attend the International Migrants Rights Conference organised by Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities (NICEM).

The Council is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and its annual general meeting on Thursday 9 December at the Wellington Park Hotel will reflect this, with a special “International Migrant Rights Conference”.

This will be a great opportunity to meet and interview international specialists on migration as well as activists from minority ethnic communities in Northern Ireland.

NICEM is also holding official opening of the Belfast Migrant Centre on Wednesday 8 December.

The migrants rights conference on 9 December 2010 at the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast, will see talk on “Migration, Globalisation and Protection – 35 years of ILO Convention 143 Migrant Rights (Supplementary Provisions), 1975” between 11.20 am and 11.40 am by Patrick Taran, Senior Migration Specialist, International Migration Programme, International Labour Office (ILO), Geneva.

It will be followed till 12.00 noon by talk on “International human rights standards for non-national: ICERD and General Recommendation 30 – Discrimination Against non-citizens” by Anastasia Crickley, Ireland Independent Expert Member, UN Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination

From 12.00 noon to 12.20 pm, Don Flynn (TBC), Director, Migrants Rights Network, UK, will speak on “EU migration: the rights of Third Country National and EU citizen under the EU law”
