“Our Day: Standing together for International Migrants Day” campaign launches in London

You are invited to the official launch of "Our Day: Standing together for International Migrants Day" campaign in London on 5th December 2012.

18th December is International Migrants Day. This is a day identified by the United Nations to recognise and respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all migrants. It is also the day when, in 2000, the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

International Migrants Day is currently celebrated by some groups in the UK and beyond, but is not marked by most people.

In 2012 Migrants Rights Network wants to work with people who support migrants in the UK, in order to put International Migrants Day on the map.

Over one hundred migrant organisations and individuals have already pledged their support on www.our-day.org.

The official launch of “Our Day Campaign”, organised by Migrants Rights Network, will be hosted by poet and journalist Musa Okwonga. It will feature four London migrant support and community organisations who will be sharing some of their latest initiatives working with migrants: The Forum, REAP, Migrants' Resource Centre and Migrant Voice.

Talks will be followed by a reception with music by the London Klezmer Quartet, food and drinks.
