Migrants Rights Network (MRN) and RAMFEL will host a public debate in London on the new wave of immigration enforcement resulting from the Immigration Act and recent enforcement action such as Operation Skybreaker.
The new tactic from the Home Office places local service providers such as NHS, Registrar Offices, banks and landlords at the heart of local immigration enforcement.
MRN and RAMFEL hold that these changes will increase race discrimination and further exclude migrant and ethnic minority communities from accessing everyday services.
Sue Lukes (Consultant) will talk about the new immigration checks in the Immigration Act 2014 while Barbara Cohen (Discrimination Law Consultant) will talk about challenging discrimination.
Rita Chadha (RAMFEL) will talk about policing and immigration enforcement in London; Suresh Grover (The Monitoring Group) will talk about racism and community organising and Ruth Grove-White (MRN) will talk about lobbying your MP and election campaigning.
The organisers of the debate would like to hear from you about what is happening with immigration enforcement in your local area and discuss how to take action.
The new face of local immigration enforcement debate will be held on 12th December 2014, from 1-4pm at St. Bride Foundation, Fleet St, London EC4Y 8EQ.
