Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt underscore plight of refugees

The two make unexpected visit to Bosnia

6th April 2010:  Refugees in Bosnia have received support from celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The two made an unexpected visit to Bosnia — the Peace Messenger City — for bringing to the fore the plight of refugees still powerless to return home 15 years after the war there ended.

A spokeswoman for the `United Nations High Commissioner (UNHC) for Refugees’ in Sarajevo — the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina — said a part of the private visit from couple from Hollywood would be devoted to long-term displaced people.

Recent reports by AFP quote a senior officer with the border police to say the two arrived at the Sarajevo International Airport by a private plane after taking a respite from Jolie’s hectic filming schedule in Venice.

UNHC Ambassador since 2001, Jolie is expected to visit projects dealing with approximately 117,000 refugees in Bosnia whose homes were either destroyed ,or they lack adequate infrastructure in their villages.
