A Filipino designer who lives and works in England gives proud to his co-filipinos. 31 October 2008. Jasper Garvida is a fashion designer recently received an award from a Project Catwalk, a prestigious contest of different fashion designer in London. From thousands of designers who participated the contest, 13 semi finalist are chosen by the judge and out of the 13 contestants, three designers were announced as winners. They are given a chance to show their talent and highlight their 12 different fashion designs created by themselves in London Fashion week as one of their prices.
Jasper is also fond in photography but he likes most is to design dresses of his models. Then he started to get more involved in the world of fashion.
Jasper Garvida is born in the Philippines, youngest child among 7 children. His father is a lawyer and his mother is an accountant. His family lived in Toronto, Canada when he was only 12 years old and he is now a Filipino-Canadian citizen. Jasper acquired a Canadian culture and where he started to like photography and fashion design. In fact, he started to remember how he enjoyed taking pictures but he particularly impressed with the dresses of his models. He then decided to try in designing different dresses of his models.
He took fashion design lesson in International Academy of Design in Toronto where he learned important foundation how every designer could be creative in doing patterns, cut, sewing and other possible elegant decors could fit on every dresses.
October 2000 Jasper decided to study at Central St. Martin’s College of Arts and Design in London. It was not easy for Jasper to enter in this college because the aspiring applicants were so many but he was very lucky that he was able to enter because of his reach portfolio and impressive old (sinauna) designs.
For Jasper living in London has given him an excellent combination to enhance his talent in designing. It was even a success for him because living and studying in London gave him an opportunity to have his own style on different kinds of design. Most of the designs he made are dresses with full of details, imagination and character.
Jasper’s first job was a head dressmaker in Michiko Koshino. Jasper then thought to widen his knowledge in the world of industry through design for the ordinary people.
His point of view is that, as a designer, clothes and other kinds of clothes are everyday needs of people that’s why he decided to focus on designing this type of clothes. Many of his designs are successful and sold in different store like Monsoon, Wallace, Evans, Kookai and Ms. Selfridges with the signature and made in UK.
Famous actresses like Sophie Ellis Bextor, Liz Hurley and Sophie Dahl are using dresses design by Jasper. He also created three collections for Swatch alternative fashion week in London. He was also a teacher in Havering Fashion College. He is now design for Maxella group of companies and busy making dress for his own private costumers.
Aside from his 12 different fashion shows where his women’s dresses designs were given award, his success and designs were published already in different magazines. His obra maestra is highlighted in different countries like Paris, Tokyo, Toronto and Vienna. His talent is a proof of having his own signature or brand within different stores in Vienna and Tokyo.

I really do think that we have found the UK’s next biggest designer."
To Jasper, this inly the beginning of his dreams. Even though he did not grow up in the Philippines, his advise to all young ones is to study harder and not to stop trying and have more patience to achieve their dreams because there is no easy success in life.
