Work on to improve Tube, London Overground, London Tramlink and DLR
26th August 2010: Check before you travel on August 28 (Saturday), August 29 (Sunday) and August 30 (Monday) Bank Holiday for work is on to improve the Tube, London Underground and London Tramlink on these days.
London Underground (LU) is undertaking a major programme of renewal as part of Transport for London’s Investment Programme, work that is being undertaken by LU and Tube Lines.
TfL is urging all Londoners and visitors to the city to “check before you travel” at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary.

London Underground: The Bakerloo line has no planned work this weekend. Cannon Street station on the District and Circle lines will be closed every weekend until mid 2012 for redevelopment works. Customers are advised to use Mansion House and Monument stations.
The Circle Line will be running this weekend. There is no planned work apart from Cannon Street redevelopment works. The District line will be suspended between Barking and Upminster the whole weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday on Monday.
There will be two bus replacement services for local journeys: Service A: Barking – Upney – Becontree – Dagenham Heathway – Dagenham East Service B: Barking – Dagenham East – Elm Park – Hornchurch – Upminster Bridge –Upminster
Passengers travelling between Barking and Upminster are advised to use c2c train services. The Central line has no planned work this weekend. The Hammersmith and City line has no planned work this weekend. On Sunday only, the Jubilee line will be suspended between Wembley Park and Stratford for line upgrade work. There will be three bus replacement services for local journeys:
Service D: Wembley Park – Neasden – Dollis Hill – Willesden Green – Kilburn – West Hampstead – Finchley Road Service E: Waterloo – Southwark – London Bridge – Bermondsey – Canada Water Service F: North Greenwich – Canning Town – West Ham – Stratford
On Bank Holiday Monday only, the Jubilee line will be completely suspended. Passengers should use alternative Tube, London Overground, DLR or local bus routes. There are four bus replacement services for local journeys:
Service C: Wembley Park – Kingsbury – Queensbury – Canons Park – Stanmore Service D: Wembley Park – Neasden – Dollis Hill – Willesden Green – Kilburn – West Hampstead – Finchley Road Service E: Waterloo – Southwark – London Bridge – Bermondsey – Canada Water
Service F: North Greenwich – Canning Town – West Ham – Stratford. Passengers travelling between central London and North Greenwich are advised to use replacement bus service F and change at Canning Town, West Ham or Stratford
Metropolitan line trains will call additionally at Willesden Green. On Friday, August 27 after 21:30 the Metropolitan line will be suspended between Northwood and Watford. There is a bus replacement service for local journeys:Northwood – Rickmansworth – Croxley – Watford.
On Saturday, Sunday and Monday the Metropolitan line will be suspended between Northwood and Watford/ Amersham/ Chesham. There will be no fast services north of Harrow-on-the-Hill. Chiltern Railways will not be running any services between Marylebone and Great Missenden.
On Sunday, the Metropolitan line will be suspended between Northwood and Watford/ Amersham/ Chesham, between Uxbridge and Harrow-on-the-Hill and between Baker Street and Aldgate. There will be no fast services north of Harrow-on-the-Hill.
The Northern line has no planned work this weekend. The Piccadilly line will be suspended between South Harrow and Uxbridge on Sunday, August 29. There will be five bus replacement services for local journeys:
Service A: Northwood – Rickmansworth – Chorleywood – Chalfont & Latimer – Amersham – Chesham Service B: Northwood – Rickmansworth – Croxley – Watford
Service C: Northwood – Moor Park Service D (Saturday only): Harrow-on-the-Hill – West Harrow – South Harrow (for Piccadilly line) – Rayners Lane – Eastcote – Ruislip Manor – Ruislip – West Ruislip (for Central line) – Ickenham – Hillingdon – Uxbridge Chiltern Railways: Great Missenden – Amersham – Beaconsfield (hourly service)
The Victoria line will be completely suspended on Saturday and Sunday. There are two bus replacement services for local journeys:Service A: Walthamstow Central – Blackhorse Road – Tottenham Hale – Seven Sisters – Manor House Service B: Victoria – Pimlico – Vauxhall – Stockwell – Brixton.
The Waterloo and City line has no planned work on Saturday. The line does not operate on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
London Overground : Gospel Oak – Stratford London Overground services will be suspended between Gospel Oak and Stratford on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. Rail replacement bus services will run, calling at all stations except Caledonian Road and Barnsbury.
London Tramlink services will be suspended between Reeves Corner and East Croydon from Saturday and Monday while work is carried out to replace tracks in central Croydon. During this time services will be affected as follows:-
Trams will not run between Reeves Corner and East Croydon. George Street, Church Street, Central, West Croydon and Wellesley Road tram stops will be closed. Tram services to/from Elmers End will be affected: it will close during early mornings, evenings and all day on Sundays – the service there will also finish early at 23hrs on Friday. Trams will generally run at normal FIRST AND LAST TIMES.
Valid tram tickets will be accepted on bus services between Reeves Corner and East Croydon. Oyster pay as you go customers will receive an automatic refund if they touch in correctly when boarding each mode. Visit www tfl.gov.uk/trams for more details. There will not be a replacement bus service. Tram tickets will also be accepted on bus 289 and 356 when Elmers End tram stop is closed.
