Work on to improve Tube, London Overground, London Tramlink and DLR

Check before you travel on  March 27 and 28, Saturday and Sunday, for work is on to improve the Tube, London Underground and London Tramlink.

London Underground (LU) is undertaking a major programme of renewal as part of Transport for London’s Investment Programme, work that is being undertaken by LU and Tube Lines.

TfL is urging all Londoners and visitors to the city to “check before you travel” at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary.TfL’s range of Travel Tools help passengers plan journeys, get travel information on the move and work out the safest way home www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/traveltools.

London Tramlink has no planned work this weekend. London Underground. The Bakerloo line has no planned work this weekend. Until 12:30 on Saturday and Sunday Mile End station will be open for interchange between the Central, District and Hammersmith and city lines only.

Passengers will be unable to enter/exit the station during this time. Please use local buses to nearby stations. This is due to station improvement works. After 12:30 Mile End station will be open as usual. 

District and Circle line trains will not be stopping at Blackfriars station until late 2011 due to Network Rail engineering work. Customers for Blackfriars are advised to use Temple or Mansion House stations or local bus route 388. Or they can use London River Services during peak times; piers are a short walk from London Bridge, Tower Hill, Embankment, Westminster and Blackfriars stations.


Additionally District and Circle line trains will not be stopping at Cannon Street station on weekends until mid 2012 for redevelopment works. Please use nearby Bank, Mansion House or Monument stations.

 Southfields station on the District line will be closed all weekend, for improvement works. Passengers are advised to use the replacement bus service to East Putney. The Circle line will be completely suspended all weekend.  The District line will be suspended all weekend between Earl’s Court and Edgware Road.

 The Hammersmith and City line will be suspended all weekend between Baker Street and Hammersmith for track replacement work. A rail replacement bus service will operate for local journeys:

Service A:  Between Baker Street and Hammersmith calling at Edgware Road Paddington, Royal Oak, Westbourne Park, Ladbroke Grove, Latimer Road, Shepherd’s Bush (Central line) and Shepherd’s Bush Green.

 Passengers travelling between Hammersmith and Baker Street and between Edgware Road and Earl’s Court/Gloucester Road are advised to use local bus services and alternative Underground routes.

 The East London line is closed for major extension work until summer 2010. The Jubilee line will be suspended on Saturday between Stanmore and West Hampstead for line upgrade work.  Two rail replacement bus services operate: Service C: Between Stanmore and Stonebridge Park (for the Bakerloo line) calling at Canons Park, Queensbury, Kingsbury and Wembley Park.

Service D: Between Wembley Park and Finchley Road calling at Neasden, Dollis Hill, Willesden Green, Kilburn and West Hampstead.The Piccadilly line has no planned work this weekend.

The Metropolitan line on Saturday will be suspended between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate.  Passengers should use alternative Chiltern Railways services via Marylebone and Harrow-on-the-Hill. Two rail replacement bus services will operate:

Service A: between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Wembley Park calling at Northwick Park and Preston Road. Service B: Between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Stonebridge Park. This service operates early morning only (southbound) and late night only (northbound).

 Passengers travelling between Uxbridge branch stations and central London are advised to use the Piccadilly line. The Metropolitan line on Sunday will be suspended between Moorgate and Aldgate for line upgrade works. Passengers are advised to use alternative Tube or local bus services.

 The Northern line will be suspended all weekend between Tooting Broadway and Morden for line upgrade works.  A rail replacement bus service will operate: Service A: Between Tooting Broadway and Morden calling at Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon.

Archway station on the Northern line will be closed all weekend and will close early from 22:00 Sundays to Thursdays until late May 2010 for improvement works. Valid tickets will be accepted on local buses between Highgate and Tufnell Park.  

Warren Street station on the Northern and Victoria lines will be closed all weekend while improvement work is carried out.  Passengers should use local bus services or nearby stations.

Clapham South station on the Northern line will close early from 22:00 Sundays to Thursdays until late April 2010 for improvement works while improvement works are carried out. Passengers should use local bus services or nearby stations.

 South Wimbledon station on the Northern line will close early from 22:00 Sundays to Thursdays until late April 2010 for improvement works. For Clapham South, passengers should use existing local bus services to and from Clapham Common or Balham. Balham station is in zone three. For South Wimbledon please use local bus services.

The Victoria line will be completely suspended all weekend for line upgrade works. Two rail replacement bus services will operate:Service A:  Between Walthamstow Central and Manor House (Piccadilly line) calling at Blackhorse Road, Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters.Service B: Between Victoria and Brixton calling at Pimlico, Vauxhall and Stockwell.

The Waterloo and City line has no planned work on Saturday.  There is no Sunday service. London Overground- Clapham Junction – Willesden Junction. London Overground services will be suspended between Shepherd’s Bush and Willesden Junction on Sunday. Valid Overground tickets will be accepted on local bus routes, 220 between Shepherd’s Bush Green and Willesden Junction and bus route 228 between Shepherd’s Bush station and Willesden Junction.

Richmond – Gospel Oak-London Overground services will be suspended between Richmond and Gunnersbury on Sunday. Passengers should use the District line. London Overground services will be suspended between Gunnersbury and Gospel Oak on Sunday. Replacement buses will operate, calling at Gunnersbury – Acton Central (for South Acton) – Willesden Junction – Kensal Rise – Brondesbury Park – Brondesbury – West Hampstead – Finchley Road & Frognal – Hampstead Heath – Gospel Oak.

Gospel Oak – Stratford -London Overground services will be suspended between Gospel Oak and Stratford every day until Tuesday 1 June. Replacement buses will run between Hampstead Heath and Stratford, calling at all affected stations except Caledonian Road & Barnsbury station.  Passengers should take the 153 bus from Caledonian Road & Barnsbury (Hemingford Road) to join the replacement bus service at Holloway Road Tube station instead.

Docklands Light Railway (DLR)- The DLR will be suspended all weekend between Canning Town – Beckton.  Two replacement buses will be running: Service C:    Canning Town – ExCeL, western entrance, express (08:30 – 19:00) Service D:    Canning Town – Royal Victoria – Custom House for ExCeL – Prince Regent – Royal Albert – Beckton Park – Cyprus – Gallions Reach – Beckton .
