Check before you travel on Saturday and Sunday 17 and 18 October 2009, as work is on to improve the Tube, London Overground, London Tramlink and DLR.


TfL has urged all Londoners and visitors to the city to “check before you travel” at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary.

London Underground


The Bakerloo line has no planned work this weekend.


The Central line will be suspended on Sunday between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone for Network Rail Olympic development works at Stratford. Customers travelling to/from central London are advised to use alternative Tube and bus routes. Valid LU tickets will be accepted on National Rail services between Liverpool Street and Seven Kings, although customers using Oyster pay as you go will be able to use these tickets on National Rail services between Stratford and Liverpool Street only.

A limited replacement bus service will also operate, for local journeys, as follows:

Service A: Stratford – Leyton – Leytonstone

St Paul’s station on the Central line is only open for exit only between 0730 and 1000 on Mondays to Fridays until late October.  This is due to escalator maintenance work.

The entire Circle line will be suspended all weekend for track replacement work and Network Rail engineering work at Blackfriars. Use alternative Tube, Bus and walking routes.

Circle and District line trains will not be stopping at Blackfriars station until late 2011 due to Network Rail engineering work. Customers for Blackfriars are advised to use nearby Temple or Mansion House stations and/or local bus route 388. Or they can use London River Services during peak times; piers are a short walk from London Bridge, Tower Hill, Embankment, Westminster and Blackfriars stations.

The District line will be suspended all weekend from Embankment to Upney eastbound and from Barking to Embankment westbound for track replacement work and Network Rail engineering work at Blackfriars. Please use c2c routes from Barking to Fenchurch Street and see replacement bus service below for Hammersmith and City line.

The Hammersmith & City line will be suspended between Whitechapel and Barking for track replacement work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes.

For the above closures a rail replacement bus service operates: Stratford – Plaistow – Canning Town – Bromley-by-Bow – Bow Road – Mile End – Stepney Green -Whitechapel

The East London line is closed for major extension work until summer 2010.

The Jubilee line will be completely suspended all weekend between Waterloo and Stanmore for line upgrade works. Use alternative Tube, local bus routes or the following replacement buses:

All weekend

Service C: Stanmore – Canons Park – Queensbury – Kingsbury – Wembley Park

All weekend

Service D: Wembley Park – Neasden – Dollis Hill – Willesden Green – Kilburn – West Hampstead  – Finchley Road –Swiss Cottage – Baker Street

The Metropolitan line will be suspended all weekend between Aldgate and Harrow – on – the – Hill for track and signalling work.  Use the enhanced Chiltern service Harrow-on-the-Hill to Marylebone. A replacement bus service operates:

Wembley Park – Preston Road – Northwick Park – Harrow-on-the-Hill (local passengers only).

Hyde Park Corner station on the Piccadilly line will be closed after 22:00 Sundays to Thursdays and before 06:00 Mondays to Fridays until 30 October for station improvement works. Passengers should use existing local bus services.

Hounslow East Piccadilly line station will also be closed for improvement works. Passengers should use existing local bus services to neighbouring stations.

Northern line trains will not be stopping at Clapham North and Tooting Bec stations from 22:00 every evening Sundays to Thursdays until 26 November because of station improvement works. Please use existing local bus routes.

Colliers Wood station on the Northern line will be closing early from 22:00 Sundays to Thursday and before 06:00 Mondays to Fridays until 23 December for improvement works. Passengers should use existing local bus services to and from Tooting Broadway or South Wimbledon.

Northern and Victoria line trains will not stop at Warren Street station all weekend while the station is closed for improvement works. Passengers should use nearby Goodge Street, Great Portland Street or Euston stations and existing local bus services.

The Waterloo & City line has no planned work on Saturday. There is no Sunday service.

London Overground
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Richmond to Stratford line

London Overground services will be suspended between Richmond and Gunnersbury on Sunday.  Passengers are advised to use the District line instead.

London Overground services will be suspended between Gunnersbury and Gospel Oak on Sunday only.  Replacement buses will run between Gunnersbury – Acton Central (for South Acton) – Willesden Junction – Kensal Rise – Brondesbury Park – Brondesbury – West Hampstead – Finchley Road & Frognal – Hampstead Heath – Gospel Oak.

London Overground services will be suspended between Gospel Oak and Stratford on Sunday.  Replacement buses, which will run between Hampstead Heath – Gospel Oak – Kentish Town West – Camden Road – Holloway Road (for Caledonian Road & Barnsbury) – Highbury & Islington – Canonbury – Dalston Kingsland – Hackney Central – Homerton – Hackney Wick – Stratford.

Gospel Oak to Barking

London Overground will be suspended between South Tottenham and Barking on Saturday. Valid London Overground tickets will be accepted on the replacement buses which will run between: South Tottenham – Blackhorse Road – Walthamstow Queen’s Road – Leyton Midland Road – Leytonstone High Road – Wanstead Park – Woodgrange Park – Barking.

London Overground services will be suspended between Gospel Oak and Barking from 17:00 on Saturday and all day on Sunday. Valid London Overground tickets will be accepted on the replacement buses, which will run between: Gospel Oak –Upper Holloway – Crouch Hill –Harringay Green Lanes – South Tottenham – Blackhorse Road – Walthamstow Queen’s Road – Leyton Midland Road – Leytonstone High Road – Wanstead Park – Woodgrange Park – Barking.

London Overground services will be suspended all weekend between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction. Valid London Overground tickets will be accepted on the replacement buses, which will run between Clapham Junction – Imperial Wharf – West Brompton – Kensington (Olympia) – Shepherd’s Bush – Willesden Junction.

Docklands Light Railway is suspended between Canary Wharf – Mudchute all weekend.

There will be two replacement bus services running between:

Canary Wharf – South Quay – Crossharbour – Mudchute – Island Gardens 

Canary Wharf – Island Gardens (Express service).
