Check before you travel! Weekend 10 & 11 January

Plan your journey during the works on the Tube, Overground and DLR 09 January 2009 -London Underground (LU) is undertaking a major programme of renewal as part of Transport for London’s Investment Programme. The work will be undertaken by Tube Lines and Metronet Rail. This bulletin now also includes information about the new London Overground network and Docklands Light Railway.

Tube, London Overground and Docklands Light Railway improvement works will inevitably result in some disruption for passengers, but TfL is working hard to provide information and alternative travel options. The work is essential to provide for London’s growing transport needs now and into the future.

TfL is urging all Londoners and Tube, London Overground and DLR passengers to “check before you travel” at weekends, allowing extra journey time where necessary.

TfL’s Improvement Works media bulletin is issued weekly and summarises all the forthcoming weekend’s work and provides links to more detailed information.

London Overground is a train service acquired by Transport for London last year.

Over £1.4bn is being invested in upgrading and extending this network which will require extensive engineering works during the next three years.

TfL advises passengers to check before travelling via the following options:
· The TfL website: www.tfl.gov.uk/tubeworks;
· The London Travel Info 24hrs telephone helpline: 020 7222 1234;
· BBC Ceefax, page 436, or ITV’s Teletext, page 164; and
· Information on posters, leaflets and “Good Service” boards at Tube stations.
