Angelina Jolie gets approval to visit refugees fleeing from Syria

Hollywood humanitarian expected to land in the country 17th June

16th June 2011: Currently in Malta with her boyfriend Brad Pitt and their six kids, Angelina Jolie has been granted Turkish officials’ approval to visit refugees fleeing from Syria to escape brutal uprisings.


The actress has been bringing out the plight of refugees and has a temple named after her.

A goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Jolie had only recently lodged her request with Turkey’s Foreign Ministry.

Spokesman Selcuk Unal on Wednesday said Jolie had been shown the green signal to proceed with her trip.

The Hollywood humanitarian is expected to land in the country on Friday,  17th June 2011 and plans to stop by refugee camps in southern Turkey.

The development is significant as thousands of Syrians have been compelled to flee from their homeland during the recent due to the eruption of violence in protest to the government’s crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrations.
