5th March 2010: After the Pope Benedict XVI, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has become the world’s most senior religious leader to join Twitter.

The response to the move can be gauged by the fact that just two weeks after joining the site, the Dalai Lama has already attracted 140,000 followers.

The Telegraph said the Dalai Lama is using his Twitter account to inform people of his activities and travels, but has shied away from making any strong political statements.
