Asylum seekers’ hostel to open

Residents close to the new hostel argues on the opening of the new service 06 November 2008. In Bolton, a hostel for asylum seekers is to open after councillors gave the go-ahead for a house to be converted.

The two-storey property in Cable Street, Bolton, will house two adults who are on a Government waiting list.

Two residents had objected to the plans, claiming the occupants would not contribute to the area because they would only stay for a short time.

But councillors approved the planning application after council officers said the area was suitable because it was close to public services and other asylum seekers lived nearby.
