Border officers seized a man who told them he would make a 900 mile trip every day. 13 October 2008. The Nigerian man told border officials he would travel to university in Belfast – from Essex, south-east England, 10-hour commute every day. He admitted he wanted to work illegally.
The Nigerian man told staff at Gatwick Airport he had a place at university in Northern Ireland to study engineering and would live in Dagenham – and produced false papers to back up his claim. Officials were clearly perplex by his claim. A source said: “His explanation was laughable. He’d clearly never even looked at a map.”
Officials were also suspicious of how he could tackle a Masters Degree taught in English when he needed a translator to talk to them.
He was sent back to the Nigerian capital Lagos the day after his arrival, the UK Border Agency said.
