The International Migration Institute is seeking to appoint a research officer to support its expanding research activities and research project titled “Stateless Diasporas in the EU”, in the programme led by Professor Robin Cohen.
The Research Officer will work to support the Oxford Diasporas Programme, funded by the Leverhulme Trust and will report to Dr Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh (Refugee Studies Centre).
The main tasks of the Research Officer are to undertake research on the “Stateless Diaspora in the EU: intersections of individual and collective statelessness amongst Palestinians and Kurds in Sweden, France and the UK” project, focusing in particular on the Kurdish case-study which forms part of this project.
Activities include organising research activities, providing bibliographical searches and summaries of papers, primary data collection and analysis, participation in programme events and assistance in producing publications to a recognized standard of excellence.
There will also be some opportunity for some original research and fieldwork.
Qualifications required include: a doctorate in a relevant social science; relevant research experience; excellent communication skills; fluency in Kurmanji, Sorani and/or Arabic.
Experience of using NVivo and knowledge of French and/or Swedish is an advantage.
Based in Oxford, the post may require travel to France and/or Sweden. This full-time post is funded for six months, to start on 2 January 2014. Grade 7: £29,541 – £36,298 per annum.
