UK opts out of EU readmission agreement with Azerbaijan

The UK Government has decided not to opt in to the EU’s agreement with the Republic of Azerbaijan on the readmission of persons residing without authorization.

In a statement laid in Parliament on 4th February 2014, Minister for Immigration Mark Harper said: “There is little irregular migration from Azerbaijan to the UK and we have no operational problems with returns which an EURA would help to resolve. It would be possible for the UK to seek to participate in the agreement post-adoption if these circumstances were to change.”
