It has twice as many asylum seekers as in the entire South-West
9th June 2010: Westminster is apparently the asylum seekers’ hot favourite place; and just about 1 per cent of them are claming subsistence-only benefits.
Home office figures reveal Westminster has twice as many asylum seekers as in the entire South-West.
The April 2010 statistics also show only 30 asylum seekers, comprising 1 per cent of the UK’s total, are asking for subsistence-only benefits of £35.52 a week in the region. The number is less than many parts of London, Leeds, Manchester, Luton, Slough and Brighton.
The statistics also only 630 are claiming assistance with accommodation in the South West; and comprise just 3.4 per cent of the UK total.
