Her teeth may need replacement
1st April 2011: An Asian girl has become the target of racist attack.
Gemma Taylor is facing the allegations of indulging in the offence of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm after allegedly hitting out at the 16-year-old.
Prosecuting at Preston Crown Court, Louise Whaites said at the time of the incident the defendant and a man appeared to have been in a dispute.
Passing by, the victim girl’s group apparently saw what was taking place. Taylor then shouted at the girl in racist terms before going ahead to punch the girl on the head.
Asked why, she claimed the group had been laughing at her.
The victim found two of her front teeth were damaged after she went to a hospital. The teeth are likely to need replacing. The incident knocked the 16-year-old victim’s confidence, the court heard.
Defending, Sophie Cartwright said Taylor was remorseful of what had happened; and was disgusted at committing the offence.
Cartwright added she would like to apologise face-to-face to the girl.
The case had been adjourned to September 28 for sentencing.
